Taken from the Imagination Project completed in 2017, The body of work celebrated innovation from the UK by investigating Patents across multiple industry sectors from the last 400 years. Carbon Fibre was discovered in 1879 whilst Thomas Edison was experimenting with superheating bamboo splinters in the search for lightbulb filaments. However it was not used as we know it today until 1963 when the researchers at Royal Aircraft Establishment worked out a process to use it as a pliable weave. This image draws on the history between Carbon Fibre and the Royal Airforce.
